I performed the initial setup, and installed all available Windows updates and also all available Dell driver and firmware updates. The client complained of the cursor jumping around when typing. On this laptop the touchpad is managed by Windows 10, there is no 3rd party driver for the touchpad. On this laptop there is no such setting anywhere in Touchpad or Keyboard settings.

There is a Touchpad Sensitivity setting, which we set to Low, yet this has not helped the issue. I am unable to find any setting that resembles the "Disable Touchpad While Typing" setting I have used in the past to resolve this issue.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem? I gathered from my reading that earlier versions of Windows 10 did offer the "Turn off TouchPad While Typing" or its equivalent, as several articles I cam across direct users to that setting under Mouse and Trackpad in Settings, but that later versions have apparently eliminated that setting in favor of the Trackpad Sensitivity setting.

Setting this to Low has not helped in this case. The driver was dated Nov It did not have an Extract Only option, only an install exe. It would not install, it simply ran and stated "This driver is not required". So I tried an earlier Synaptics driver from which did have an Extract Only option. I was able to install it, but it did not install the system tray app I was looking for, nor did it create any additional settings.

It did not change the behavior. I then installed a third party app named TouchFreeze. The only setting the app has is whether to run at Windows start or not. There is no interface per se, just a right click menu. It's doing its job and has resolved the issue, and has no advertising. There are other similar apps available which I have not tried which may do the same thing.

Do you know if it is the Cypress Touchpad in the laptop? As I understand it, Windows 10 should provide all the drivers for touchpad now and not Dell. I did contact Dell support, but there was a long hold time stated upfront so I elected to search elsewhere first. I've not seen any indication that this is the Cypress touchpad.

I'm uncertain if one or both are the touchpad. Both use a Microsoft driver dated sometime in I haven't seen "Cypress" anywhere, so I don't think this is the Cypress touchpad. I found this troublehsooting guide for the touchpad. There is a section to hide the mouse pointer while typing.

Touchpad Troubleshooting Guide. With our new Dell laptops there is a "Dell Touch pad" app that you need to download from the Windows store, that gives you more setting options. That will bring up the Windows Store App Dialog. It is a free app, so there is that I have used it to turn off the touch pad for those folks that always use a mouse. Another step you can take is to simply enter the bios and see if the touchpad acts up there.

If so, send me a private message with the service tag as the unit would need service. Anything else in the Event Viewer? Have you this issue when yout boot into the safe mode? I, also, wondered if it was a Windows 10 problem or a hardware problem and as Justin Dell suggest if you see issues in the BIOS then it suggest a hardware issue.

In these cases, I always think it is worth having the tool of a Ubuntu on a USB stick so that you can boot from that and see how that goes. If that works then it is a Windows 10 issue and if you get the same problem then it is a hardware fault. Click the "Property" drop down menu and choose Hardware IDs. Do this for all HID devices, there will be multiple listings under each one. Copy those and paste them into your favorite search engine, this should take you down the correct path to which type of touchpad you have.

Then you can search the Dell site for that specific driver. Also, you may want to consider not letting Windows install drivers. It will install the incorrect driver on occasion, leaving you in the state you are currently in. I installed and used both. They appear identical, and while they look sleek, they both only provided a single function, they simply open the Mouse Properties window, and that's it.

They do not provide any additional settings or features that are not already present in the operating system. Thank you, I had overlooked this setting before. It is now turned on and the laptop owner is going to report back to me the results. I am remoting into the laptop so am not able to test it myself.

I'll update this thread when I hear back. If the action just taken does not resolve the issue, this will be the next step. Are you suggesting this laptop contains a GPS card?

Touchpad Troubleshooting Guide Thank you, I had overlooked this setting before. The "Hide cursor while typing" setting did not help apparently. I may need to go onsite and confirm the problem for myself. I can see the settings from here but not the actual behavior while typing.

Although with this user I don't really doubt her description. Synaptics does not provide drivers through their website, instead referring you to the manufacturer.

Dell does not provide any drivers for this specific laptop prior to Windows 10, and no specific Synaptics driver for Windows What is known at this point is: It appears to be a Synaptics touchpad from the Hardware ID, and Dell leaves it to Windows 10 to provide the driver.

It doesn't seem like picking a random Synaptics Windows 8 driver would be a productive use of time. I'm going to go onsite, verify the issue, test for hardware issues and go from the there. Worse case: Hardware test good and there is no clear path to proceed on. W This person is a verified professional.

Back to the bios and turn off the GPS radio. Post back with results. W wrote: Back to the bios and turn off the GPS radio. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting.
